Cultivation Protocols

Umame Mushrooms firmly believes in the concept "Not good enough for our dinner table, not good enough for yours...". To this end, Umame Mushrooms strictly observes the following :

  • No Antibiotics or Hormones
  • No Fungicides or Pesticides
  • No Artificial Growth Stimulators
  • No Shelf-life Extenders

Environmental Practices

Everyone at Umame Mushrooms share a deep concern for the environment and its protection. We do not engage in any cultivation activities that could potentially be harmful to the environment and we continiously strive to improve our environmental footprint.

  • All Feedstock from renewable sources
  • Very Low Energy Consumption
  • Waste Minimization & Recycling
  • No Stack Emissions
  • No Peat Moss used

Substrate Composition

All our mushrooms are cultivated on a pasteurized or sterilized growing medium using substrate formulations combining all or some of the following raw materials :

  • Sawdust
  • Corn Stover and Wheat Straw / Bran
  • Millet, Soya and Sorghum grains
  • Sucrose, Glucose and Fructose
  • Calcium Carbonate
  • Mineral & Vitamin Supplements

Organic Waste Recycling

Spent substrate blocks and picking wastes are composted and recycled in our orchards. Due care and attention is given to important aspects such as leaching, nutrient build-up and soil salination where compost is made or applied.
