UM3 Trials - First Pins Observed

Sunday April 18, 2010 at 6:56:50 AM

Following on our previous posts on the UM3 substrate trials -

Our last update left the blocks on day 26 where we saw evidence of a little browning and a lot of popcorning on the overwhelming majority of the Shiitake blocks comprising the pasteurized UM3 substrate trial. This phenomenon was also evident on all replications of the UM3 trial material.

To our great surprise we observed the first pins on the UM3 trial blocks forming since yesterday morning. From a timeline perspective, this means that the UM3 pasteurized substrate started non-induced Shiitake pinhead formation on day 30.

Compared to our normal substrate and cultivation methods where we typically only started seeing pin development at around day 75 - 80, the UM3 substrate is unquestionably the most rapid substrate / strain mix that we have ever encountered.
